As you may have heard, the federal court ruling in Texas was not appealed within the seven-day window ordered by the judge. When midnight arrived on August 13, 2026, the federal regulations for buying a suppressor completely changed. The excitement reached a fever pitch when word got out around 10pm the night before that President Trump ordered the justice department to not appeal!
What does this mean now? As we stated in other blogs and videos, the states that do not have federal requirements related to the National Firearms Act (NFA) on their books are now open for you to buy a suppressor like a regular firearm. All that is required is the standard NICS background check, just like when you buy a firearm. In fact, Silencer Central had its first sale in our lobby the moment we opened the doors this morning! The customer was able to walk in, select a suppressor from our vast inventory, fill out the standard paperwork and leave with his new can! That’s a first for us and a big win for you!
We’re not going to lie; this opens a lot of doors and creates some confusion for all of us. If you currently have a suppressor going through the original process with us, but you live in one of the 27 “free” states, you don’t have to do anything at this point. We will reach out to you if things change. We are working with one of the best 2nd Amendment legal teams in the nation to ensure that we take care of you and get your suppressor to you as fast as possible.
If you live in one of the 15 states that still have a suppressor restriction law in place that requires the NFA approval, stay the course. The NFA and the process has NOT gone away! You can still buy a suppressor through the standard Form 4 process.

As we mentioned in previous blogs and videos, the Federal government still has a 60-day window in which to ask for a stay, which would pause the order. This would make the process of approvals go back into place for that time, unless there is an addendum stating otherwise.
For those 15 states, things are very fluid at the moment. We have learned Montana is looking to change things in the right direction. Depending upon each state, things can either stay as they are, and you’re required to still do the Form 4 and get ATF approval. They can also join the rest of the free states and remove that regulation.
The worst possible scenario is that they decide to make suppressor ownership illegal. What that would mean for those who already have a legally obtained suppressor in those states remains unclear. You could be grandfathered in, or just the opposite. Not to suggest fearful buying, but it may be in your best interest to buy a suppressor now before anything else changes.
We are monitoring the situations in these states very closely. As we stated in previous blogs, the best thing you can do is reach out to your state-level representatives and voice your opinions.

You don't need to do anything. We will process your approval as fast as possible and still ship your suppressor to your door legally.
As of now, the Federal regulatory requirements have changed, but the Federal firearms laws have not, and this also includes state laws and dealership requirements. What you need to know depends upon your state. Find more information here.
That depends upon where you live and how you want your suppressor delivered. If you want it to come to your door, you still need to go through the approval process as before. We cannot, as of yet, ship a suppressor that hasn't gone through that process to anyone but an FFL holder.
