Our Top 10 Suppressors: Selection Process

There's truly no universal do-it-all can on the market - though some come close. In the end, it all comes down to a few key deciding factors that we used when putting together this list. To pick our top 10 suppressors of 2025, we considered weight, length, price, and materials to be the main deciding factors. In the end, though, the biggest factor - personal preference - will be up to you.

Choosing a Rifle Suppressor

Weight and length are two of the biggest aspects to consider when choosing a rifle suppressor. If you're adding a suppressor to a hunting rifle, then you want to make sure that it isn't so heavy as to be cumbersome on a backcountry hike or so long that it impedes movement when in a blind. Likewise, if you're suppressing a rifle that you use for home defense, you want to make sure that your suppressed setup is conveniently sized for easy clearing of the rooms in your house without getting in the way.

Choosing a Pistol Suppressor

Choosing a pistol suppressor involves a lot of considerations, but two of the big ones are modularity and durability. Pistols come in all sorts of different sizes, and so the ability to configure the length of a modular suppressor makes it much easier for you to strike the right balance between size and sound suppression even when switching between subcompact and full-size pistols, for example.

Durability is also a big thing to consider. If you're primarily shooting smaller calibers, then an aluminum suppressor may well be the way to go. If, however, you're shooter bigger calibers (like 10mm), then you may want to opt for a stainless steel or titanium suppressor because those materials are better suited to the increased pressures created by bigger calibers.

Top Suppressor Models for 2025

As we mentioned, there are a lot of suppressors out there to choose from in 2024. We've broken them down into two different types - rifles and pistols - and five different categories, giving us a total of ten different suppressors.

Best Overall Rifle Suppressor: BANISH 30

Quiet? Yep, measured 34 decibels of deduction. Modular? Yep, two different lengths. Durable? Yep, titanium construction. Affordable? For everything you're getting, we think so.

In most instances whenever one tool attempts to fill numerous roles, the end result is a tool that does a lot, but nothing really well. Fortunately, this is not the case when it comes to a multi-caliber suppressor like the BANISH 30, and it's why we chose it as the best overall rifle suppressor.

The BANISH 30 comes as a 9-inch suppressor holding eight baffles, but if you’ll be shooting suppressed in tighter, confined spaces or hunting blinds, it can easily break down and assemble into a 7-inch configuration with six baffles.

This suppressor also weighs considerably less than most suppressors of similar size. This is because the BANISH 30 is made from a strong titanium alloy for unmatched durability at an extremely lightweight. In the full configuration, it weighs 14 ounces; in the short configuration, it weighs just 11 ounces. You’ll be hard-pressed to even feel it on your gun!

Perfect for target practice, competitive shooting, or in the field while big game hunting, the BANISH 30 will reduce the sound signature and mitigate some of the recoil on your rifle.

Drawbacks:

  • Direct thread mounting only

Dead Air's Odessa 9 product image

If you look up "modular" in the suppressor dictionary, you'll see a photo of the Dead Air Odessa 9. Ten different configurable lengths with the included nine baffles means that modularity is the name of the game and an easy choice for this category on our list. With caliber compatibility ranging from .22LR to 9mm and even 5.7x28mm, there’s very little you can’t do with this pistol suppressor.

Due to its compact size – ranging from a tiny 2.75” to just 7.75” and 7.4 ounces in its full length – you’ll barely even notice the Odessa 9 on the end of your barrel. As an added bonus, the 1.1” diameter means that you won’t need suppressor height sights when used on most pistols. This is a big plus since most people don’t run suppressed all the time.

The Odessa 9 ships with a 1/2×28 piston mount, but you can also use a variety of other common thread pistons and a fixed barrel spacer.

Most Durable Pistol Suppressor: BANISH 9K

Man aiming a Fostech pistol with a BANISH 9K

If you were to close your eyes and envision what the perfect 9mm suppressor would be, you’d undoubtedly imagine something short, light, and quiet. The BANISH 9K exceeds every expectation and is amazing durable, too.

The BANISH 9K is the ultimate 9mm suppressor. It is made from 100% high-grade titanium for amazing strength and lightweight. The 3D-printed 9K is just 4.1 inches long and has a diameter of just 1.3 inches, making it one of the most compact 9mm suppressors available. It weighs just 2.7 ounces, too. Yes, you read that right – 2.7 ounces. This compact size makes concealed carry a possibility with the BANISH 9K suppressor.

Compact size and light weight don’t mean much if the sound levels are still high, and again the BANISH 9K exceeds expectations. It brings the levels down for 9mm rounds to 132 decibels at the ear. For 300 BLK subsonic rounds, it is even rated for full-auto fire.

The BANISH 9K is so light that you don't need a Nielsen Devicefor your pistol to function properly. Usually, with a pistol suppressor, there’s an issue because the same energy that is suppressed by the suppressor is also what drives the action. A Nielsen Device incorporates a small spring that pushes the barrel up, allowing the pistol to cycle properly. That’s not a concern with the 9K.

The BANISH 9K is offered with 1/2x28 standard or 13.5x1LH metric direct thread options. The 9K is caliber rated for the 9mm and every caliber below, giving you many options for how you use your BANISH 9K. If you’ve been waiting for the ultimate 9mm suppressor, your wait is over.

Advantages:

  • Manufacturing process very similar to 3D printing using high-grade titanium
  • lightweight and extremely quiet
  • Requires no piston for reliable operation

Drawbacks:

  • Not user-serviceable

BANISH 9K Specs:

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Weight: 2.7 ounces
  • Diameter: 1.3 in.
  • Length: 4.1 in.
  • Mount Type: Direct Thread
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • User-Serviceable: No
  • Full-Auto Rated: Yes with subsonic
  • Price: $699

First and foremost, yes, suppressors are 100% legal to own. That's the short answer. Keep reading for the long answer.

In broad legal terms dealing with federal laws, if you're able to own a gun, then you're able to own a suppressor. However, suppressors are not legal in all 50 states. In fact, they're only legal in 42 states and you can only hunt with them in 41 of those 42. There are also some local restrictions on use and ownership within some states. As a result, you need to do your due diligence to ensure that suppressor use and ownership is legal where you live.

NFA Items

Suppressors are known as NFA items because they fall under regulations set out in the National Firearms Act of 1934, or NFA for short. Other things that are classified as NFA items are destructive devices, short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, and machine guns. It may seem silly to lump suppressors in with those other items, but that's just how the current guns laws are and have been for almost a century in the United States.

Form 4473

Federal Form 4473 is the government form you fill out as a Firearms Transaction Record. Traditionally, it's used for all pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Because the ATF treats suppressors like firearms, the Form 4473 needs to be filled out as part of your suppressor buying process. The Form 4473 allows Silencer Central to legally transfer ownership of the silencer(s) to you as the customer after ATF approval of your Form 4 and before shipping the silencer right to your door.
