Get to Know the Top Suppressor Brands of 2024
They say that variety is the spice of life. If that’s true, then the suppressor world is packed full of flavor! At first, that might seem like a good thing, but it can actually cause some problems if you’re not careful.
Since there are so many suppressors on the market today being offered from a dizzying array of brands (some brand new; some well-established), it can get pretty confusing in a hurry when trying to sift through all the options.
So, how do you pick the right suppressor? First, you start by picking the right suppressor brand. To do that, we’re going to give a rundown of the top suppressor brands on the market in 2024.
Our Recommended Suppressor Brands
At Silencer Central, we don’t just sell a ton of our BANISH series suppressors. We sell a ton of other suppressors made by other brands, too. As a result, we’ve got a pretty good read on the suppressor brands that are top-notch. For this post, we’ve chosen seven of the best suppressor brands that we know, trust, and sell. Of most importance, they were chosen for their reputation, their repeated recommendations, and their customer experience, among other things.
Silencer Central BANISH® Series
Silencer Central was started almost 20 years ago in 2005. Since then, the company has grown into the nation’s largest suppressor dealer, licensed to sell suppressors to customers in all 42 states where they are legal to own.
Unlike other companies, Silencer Central is both a dealer and has its own BANISH series of suppressors, all of which are overbuilt for extreme use, and many of which are modular and multi-caliber. This position as both a dealer and producer of suppressors allows us to have a unique view of the industry as both a dealer and a suppressor company. We understand what goes into creating a top-notch product and what it takes to stay at the leading edge of development, as well as what it takes to offer a seamless sales and delivery process.
With Silencer Central’s BANISH lineup, you get a suppressor of the highest quality from a company that will handle the entire purchase process for you: sell you the suppressor and your tax stamp, handle all of the paperwork filing for you, set you up with a free NFA gun trust and a no-interest payment plan, and then mail your suppressor right to your door upon approval. Oh, and if you need a barrel threaded for your new suppressor, we can do that, too, while you wait on approval!
At Silencer Central, it’s truly one-stop shopping with one of the oldest and most experienced suppressor companies in the country.
SilencerCo
Perhaps one of the most well-known brands in the industry, SilencerCo was founded in 2008 and has grown to produce more suppressors than any other company in the market. Simply put, they know what it takes to make a high quality suppressor and deliver them to hungry consumers at a rate like no other.
They make suppressors for every kind of firearm as well as a whole host of accessories, making sure that you can get anything and everything that you need to ensure your SilencerCo suppressor performs to the absolute best of its ability. In the rare event that something should happen, they also have a lifetime warranty and back their products with excellent customer service.
Not one to rest on their laurels, SilencerCo has been all about innovation. They offered the first commercially-viable shotgun suppressor, and integrally suppressed pistol, and even a suppressed muzzleloader that required no NFA approval.
Thunder Beast Arms Corporation
Founded in 2007 with the goal of creating a better suppressor for long-range shooting, Thunder Beast Arms Corporation (TBAC) has accomplished that and much, much more. Their suppressors have become a common go-to for shooters in the tactical, sporting, and competition spaces.
Best known for their ULTRA series, it has quickly grown to be one of the most in-demand suppressors on the market. TBAC’s suppressors are the perfect blend of accurate, lightweight, and durable while still maintaining best-in-class sound suppression, and their market share reflects this. TBAC’s products are often backordered – not because of production delays – but because they’re so highly sought-after, and people willingly wait for them. That really says something about the company and their product.
In addition to suppressors, TBAC also offers barrel threading, Cerakote work, and precision rifle shooting courses.
Yankee Hill Machine
Established more than 70 years ago in 1951 by a Korean War veteran, Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) has become both a leading OEM manufacturer in the firearm and firearm accessories space as well as a leader in the suppressor manufacturing arena.
YHM makes a variety of suppressors, but their most popular ones are from their Turbo and Resonator lineup. They even offer an integrally-suppressed upper receiver group for the AR-15.
Most importantly, YHM prides itself on being a multi-generation family-owned business that provides high-quality suppressors at an incredibly affordable price point. For example, many of their best-selling suppressors cost less with the $200 tax stamp than some of their competitors’ products cost without the $200 tax stamp.
YHM also offers a full line of accessories and barrel threading services.
Dead Air Silencers
Dead Air Silencers was founded in 2014 by two former employees of SilencerCo. That right there tells you that these guys know what they’re doing.
The goal at Dead Air Silencers was to create products that were way overbuilt for their intended use to ensure a lifetime of peak performance, all without breaking the bank of the purchaser. Their Sandman series of suppressors are widely used and trusted by AR-15 shooters in all sorts of situations and scenarios, and their Wolverine suppressor is the best thing going for use with an AK-47.
Since training is incredibly important and not always done with live-fire rounds, Dead Air Silencers offers SIM training versions of their most popular models so that shooters can gain real-world training with the same weight and feel of their normal setup all while using non-lethal training ammo. You won’t find that elsewhere.
Gemtech Silencers
One of America’s oldest suppressor brands, Gemtech can trace its roots back to the 1960s when Dr. Phil Dater began tinkering in his hospital’s machine shop for a way to merge his passion for firearms with his knowledge of soundwaves. The company has been a leader in the development of suppressors and helped found the American Suppressor Association in 2011, which seeks to further education and rights for suppressor owners through public relations and legislative efforts. In 2017, Gemtech became part of the Smith & Wesson group, which helped expand the brand’s innovations as well as grow product availability.
Gemtech is a popular brand with a wide range of suppressors available. The suppressors are available in several models tuned to specific calibers, with various units covering everything from .17 to .338 Lapua. They also offer several integrally suppressed barrels and uppers for popular modern sporting rifle platforms. They offer pistol suppressors and have suppressed replacement barrels for Browning Buckmark and S&W Victory .22lr pistols. Among the newest suppressors from Gemtech are the Abyss and Neutron lines. These models were developed with user comfort in mind and are among Gemtech’s most popular models.
Rugged Suppressors
In 2014, Rugged Suppressors was founded by gun guys for gun guys (and gals) with the goal of creating high-quality suppressors that push the envelope of design and innovation. As a result, their Obsidian line of pistol suppressors are some of the most popular ones on the market today.
While modular suppressors are a sort of industry standard these days (like many in the BANISH lineup), Rugged Suppressors was an innovator in the space with their ADAPT technology. The ability to easily swap between lengths and configurations without having to buy an entirely new suppressor is something that we can all thank Rugged for pioneering.
While their suppressors are built to withstand just about anything, user-error can and does happen. Because they strategically engrave all of the NFA information on the strongest parts of the suppressor, Rugged can perform warranty and replacement work without forcing the buyer to redo their Form 4 and go through the NFA wait time again. That’s huge!
Choosing the Right Suppressor Brand
It’s vital that you choose the right suppressor brand before making a purchase. Trying to figure out exactly what the right brand is can be tricky, so we’ve got a few tips for things to start looking for before you commit to buying a suppressor from a given brand.
Choose a Company You Stand By
Like anything you buy, it’s important to purchase a product from a company you trust. If you can visit their booths at trade shows and get some hands-on time with the products and face time with their employees, you can get a good feel for the products and the company as a whole.
Beyond that, check around for any evidence of lawsuits, recalls, etc. You don’t want to buy from a company that could be here today and gone tomorrow, leaving you with a product that has no support.
Ask Around
First-hand accounts are everything when it comes to the suppressor shopping experience. Anyone can have an opinion about anything, but you’re looking for ones from people who have actually used the suppressors.
Talk to your shooting buddies and see what brands they know and trust. Ask people at your local gun range what products they have used and what they recommend. When asking for opinions at a range, try to go to one that offers suppressor sales and rentals so that you can get some real-world user experience.
If all else fails, go online and cruise some forums. Places like AR15.com and Reddit offer a wealth of information on suppressor companies, exposing both the good and the bad. Remember, though, that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. By that, it means that people tend to highlight and vent about their bad experiences while overlooking the positive ones.
Talk to Customer Service
Whether you’re looking for recommendation information before you buy or you need support after the fact, a company lives and dies by its customer service staff. Be sure that the company you choose has people in this department who actually know what they’re talking about and are users of the products, too. Whether you’re talking to them on the phone or through a web chat, you want a seamless and easy experience that doesn’t leave you more frustrated than when you started.
