Banish 22 vs. SilencerCo Sparrow: Head to Head Comparison

The only thing better than spending some time plinking with a .22 is doing it while using a suppressor.

For many people, a .22 caliber suppressor is their introduction into the world of sound suppression. Since variety is the spice of life, there are a ton of .22 caliber suppressors on the market, so how do you choose the right one?

In this article, we’ll take a look at two of them - our Banish 22 and the SilencerCo Sparrow - and give you a head-to-head comparison of each.

How do the Banish 22 and SilencerCo Sparrow Compare?

While the overall goal of all suppressors is the same, not all of them are made alike. The same is true for the Banish 22 and the SilencerCo Sparrow. They’re similar in construction, durability, user-serviceability, and price, but they’ve got differences when it comes to sound reduction and design.

The table below gives you a quick overview of how they compare, and each section below the table gives a more thorough explanation of the comparison.

Sound Reduction

A standard BB gun has a sound report of about 110 decibels, which is essentially what most would consider being “Hollywood quiet.”

Testing with the Banish 22 shows that it brings down the report of a shot down to 113 decibels, or barely more than a BB gun.

Tests for the Sparrow show that the report is brought down to 112 decibels, which is also just a tiny amount louder than a BB gun.

As you’ll see below, the inner workings of these two suppressors are different. This is important for many reasons, one of which is the first-round pop. You’ll notice that more with the Sparrow than with the Banish because of their designs.

Aside from the first-round pop, these two suppressors do fantastic jobs reducing sound. With just one decibel of difference between the two, it’s pretty much a draw here. The likelihood that you or I could tell the difference of one decibel is highly unlikely.

Design

We designed the Banish 22 to maximize your time shooting and minimize your time cleaning. Inside the tube are eight baffles that are engineered for a precise fit to keep lead debris and carbon buildup at an absolute minimum. This prevents the debris and buildup from reaching the tube, which causes components to fuse together. Being able to remove and clean individual baffles means that you can get your suppressor as clean as possible.

Credit: SilencerCo

According to SilencerCo, the design for the Sparrow was created “with simplicity, durability, and user serviceability as its core objectives.” Inside is a monolithic core baffle covered with two half tubes that cover and separate it from the outer tube. This design helps the core stay as clean as possible to prevent buildup or fusion. It’s important to note, however, that while the core may be a convenient one-piece design, it’s harder to clean in all the nooks and crannies than separate baffles.

Construction

Suppressors are made from a variety of materials these days. There are steel, aluminum, titanium, and even 3D-printed options available. However, not all materials are made alike, and some perform better than others.

The Banish 22 is made entirely of titanium. That is, both the tube and the eight individual baffles are all made from it. While the baffles are left bright, the tube is finished in Gun Kote.

The SilencerCo Sparrow is made entirely of stainless steel. Inside the tube are two half tubes that cover a monolithic core. The tube has a black oxide finish.

Both metals are durable, but titanium has a better durability-to-weight ratio, is less prone to wear, and is easier to clean in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Size and Weight

Aside from sound, size and weight are two of the most important aspects of a suppressor. Especially when you’re dealing with small calibers like the .22, you really want your suppressor to be something that practically goes unnoticed on the end of your muzzle.

Banish 22 & Ruger

The Banish 22 is just 5.375” long, is only 1” in diameter, and weighs a mere 4.1 ounces. The Sparrow is only 5.08” long, is just 1.06” in diameter, and weighs 6.5 ounces.

The Sparrow is the shorter of the two, but it’s also bigger in diameter and weighs more.

While the difference between the two is “only” 2.4 ounces, that really does add up on a rimfire gun. Both rimfire pistols and rifles tend to be smaller and lighter than their centerfire cousins, and you’ll definitely notice the weight difference as time goes on - especially on a lightweight pistol.

Durability

If a suppressor isn’t durable, then none of the other qualities it might possess really matter. What good is a quiet or lightweight can if it’s going to fall apart after only a few uses? Luckily, both of these suppressors are built for longevity.

Both options can be used on calibers as small as .17WSM and .17HMR and up to the 5.7x28mm cartridge. As an extra bonus, both are rated for full-auto fire, so go ahead and send it!

User-Serviceability

Both of these suppressors are user-serviceable. This means that they can be completely disassembled for cleaning and other maintenance needs that may arise.

Since rimfire ammo is notoriously dirty, the ability to completely disassemble these two suppressors is a big plus. Instead of using solvents or foams and hoping that you get all the nooks and crannies clean inside a sealed suppressor, both the Banish 22 and the SilencerCo Sparrow can be taken completely apart so that you know you got all the nooks and crannies clean.

Price

The Banish is $535 and the Sparrow is $374, so there’s $161 between them. If cost is your only concern, then the Sparrow is your best bet.

Of course, remember that you also have to factor in the $200 tax stamp on top of the cost of the suppressor. The prices listed above do not include the stamp.

Which .22 Caliber Suppressor Comes Out on Top?

As you can see, both the Banish 22 and the SilencerCo Sparrow have areas where they come out on top. You just have to figure out which areas you’re willing to make sacrifices in favor of other benefits. Either way, though, you’re going to be the one coming out on top regardless of which suppressor you choose because they’re both great options.

SilencerCo Omega: Your Questions Answered

Buying a suppressor is an investment, and given the amount of time and money you’ll spend in the process, you want to make sure that you’re getting the best product available.

So, how do we determine what makes one suppressor better than another? Is “the best” really something that we can definitively say?

The fact of the matter is that no one suppressor can do it all, but some come closer than others. Lighter. Quieter. Shorter. Stronger. You name it, the Omega suppressor has it.

That’s why we think the SilencerCo Omega just may be the best .308 suppressor that money can buy. Read on and we’ll explain how and why we came to this conclusion.

An Introduction to SilencerCo and the Omega Suppressor

Begun in 2008, SilencerCo quickly became one of the most well-known names in the suppressor business. Innovation is the name of the game, and SilencerCo knows all about innovation.

They created the first non-round pistol silencer - the Osprey; the quietest and easiest cleaning rimfire silencer - the Sparrow; the only commercially-viable, fully-modular shotgun silencer in existence - the Salvo 12; and the first integrally suppressed 9mm pistol that is holsterable and hearing safe with all factory ammunition – the Maxim 9.

Their Omega suppressor was introduced in 2015 and was an immediate success. In fact, it outperformed SilencerCo’s projections and sold 5,000 units in the first year! That’s more than 13 units per day, every day, for 365 days straight!

New suppressors come on the market every year. Some stick around and others disappear. Simply put, there’s a reason why, six years after its introduction, we’re still talking about the SilencerCo Omega.

SilencerCo Omega Review

Made of titanium, stainless steel, Cobalt 6, and Inconel, the Omega suppressor is designed to be incredibly strong yet still lightweight. You’re probably familiar with the benefits of titanium and stainless steel in suppressors, but Cobalt 6 and Inconel might be new to you.

Cobalt 6 is the most versatile type of cobalt alloy and has a good balance of abrasion and impact resistance. Inconel is a “superalloy” designed to withstand corrosion, oxidation, and high temperatures.

Essentially, those four metals are like a team of superheroes specifically assembled to take on an entire evil lair of suppressor-related villains. SilencerCo intended for the Omega to last darn near forever and perform just as well on your first shot as your thousandth shot - and more.

SilencerCo claims that the Omega is the lightest, shortest, quietest, full-auto rated, titanium 300 caliber (7.62mm) centerfire rifle silencer on the market. As such, the “Omega” name is fitting.

Performance and Features

SilencerCo set some pretty high expectations for the Omega suppressor. Let’s break down the claims they have made for it and if the hype lives up to reality.

Quietest: The SilencerCo Omega is rated for a sound reduction of 32 decibels. Muzzle averages for .300 BLK are 119.5 dB; 5.56 NATO are 130.1 dB; and .308 WIN are 133.9 dB.

Full auto rated: The Omega is full-auto rated and is compatible with a range of ammunition from .22 Hornet to .300 Winchester Magnum.

Lightest: At just 14.7 ounces with the flat front cap, the Omega is the lightest suppressor in this category on the market. Of course, weight goes up when you add on the brake, etc.

Shortest: The Omega measures just 6.2” in its smallest configuration. Obviously, it gets longer if you add the brake, QD mount, etc.

The versatility of configurations for the SilencerCo Omega is what makes it one of the best choices on the market. If you want the absolute shortest and lightest configuration, run this can as a direct thread with the flat front cap. Want it to be as short as possible but quieter still? Go direct thread (5/8x24) and add the Anchor Brake. Looking for the quietest and easiest configuration? Run both the Anchor Brake and the muzzle brake with their proprietary Active Spring Retention (ASR) quick detach mount.

The best part about the versatility is that everything you need is included. Suppressor, Specwar ASR muzzle brake, ASR mount, Anchor Brake, and multitools. True one-stop shopping; no nickel-and-diming you to death for extra parts.

Shooting larger calibers means larger amounts of felt recoil, and while bigger is always better, I’ve never met someone who prefers to feel more recoil. The included Anchor Brake can reduce that felt recoil anywhere from 20% to 50%, depending on what specific caliber you’re shooting.

Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention that the Omega is available in a variety of different colors, too. SilencerCo knows that gun guys often want their entire setup to match, so you can choose from black, white, sniper grey, or FDE. If you decide to change the color at a future date, it’s perfectly safe to use Cerakote on the SilencerCo Omega.

Pricing: How Much Does the SilencerCo Omega Cost?

MSRP for the Omega is $1,130. That’s right on par for most suppressors in this caliber family, and given the tremendous versatility of the Omega, it’s a very fair price. The saying “you get what you pay for” is true, but it might not be true enough with the Omega suppressor. In this case, you really do get what you pay for - and more!

How to Clean a SilencerCo Omega 300

The Omega typically requires limited maintenance. It’s a fully welded suppressor, meaning that its internal components are not designed to come apart. Suppressors that are not designed to be disassembled are sometimes referred to as “not user-serviceable,” but don’t let that term fool you into thinking you cannot properly maintain your silencer. Anything that needs to come apart, does come apart.

Mounts should periodically be cleaned with any standard gun cleaning solvent and a brush to remove any carbon or fouling. If necessary, run a cleaning brush through the bore to remove any light fouling of the suppressor.

Do not run cleaning patches through the bore as the patches might become lodged in the suppressor and cause damage upon firing. Also, read the labels on your cleaning solvents to be sure that they won’t negatively impact any of the materials that make up the Omega. For more information on suppressor maintenance, read our full article on how to clean a suppressor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s answer a few of the most common questions we hear about the SilencerCo Omega silencer.

What mounts work with the SilencerCo Omega?

The Omega ships with the attached direct thread mount and Anchor Brake, as well as an Active Spring Retention (ASR) quick-detach mount and muzzle brake (included in box). All tools required for installation and removal are included.

Whether you prefer the simple, shorter nature of a direct thread setup, or the quick attach/detach features of the ASR Mount, you should take care to ensure that the Omega is mounted securely to your firearm before firing.

What guns can the SilencerCo Omega be used with?

The only real limit to the kind of gun you can use an Omega suppressor with is its minimum barrel length requirements. Keep in mind, though, that this isn’t just an Omega-specific limitation. Others have barrel length requirements as well.

The Omega is rated down to 10” barrels for .223 Remington/5.56 NATO, 16” barrels for .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO, and 20” barrels for .300 Win Mag.

As long as you meet those requirements, you’re good to go. Send it!

What rounds can the SilencerCo Omega take?

The Omega is full-auto rated and is compatible with a range of ammunition from .22 Hornet to .300 Winchester Magnum. Keep in mind, though, that SilencerCo does not recommend using lead projectiles with the Omega suppressor.

Silencer Shop vs. SilencerCo vs. Silencer Central

With the amount of legwork involved, obtaining a suppressor can be a time-consuming experience. But, with the right help, it doesn’t have to be. In fact, there are dealers, like Silencer Central, who have built their business models around simplifying the overall purchase process involved with buying a silencer.

With that being said, let’s take a look at three popular sources for silencers — Silencer Shop, SilencerCo, and Silencer Central - and what makes each of them unique in their own way. By highlighting differences and similarities, we hope to make you a better-informed consumer.

Comparing Silencer Shop vs. SilencerCo vs. Silencer Central

There are a few things to consider when looking at the approach of a manufacturer, dealer, or wholesale provider of suppressors. First, let’s take a look at some basic background on each company, so you can understand which one may best meet your needs.

SilencerCo is a suppressor manufacturer that has grown to produce more silencers than anyone else in the market in just over 10 years. They offer a range of products across several gun styles, including rifle, pistol, and shotgun, which can be purchased at dealers throughout the U.S.

Silencer Shop specializes in wholesale silencer products, and with their “kiosk” system, have tried to improve the overall purchasing experience and dealings with the ATF. When you purchase from this company, you’ll work with both them and your local dealer to submit paperwork and obtain your accessory.

In comparison to the other two, Silencer Central supplies a full-service approach to purchasing a silencer, where every step of the background check is taken care of for you. All you need to do is choose your product, provide us with the proper information, relax while we file everything for you, and wait for the delivery of your suppressor.

Choosing a Remington 700 AAC-SD Suppressor: What You Need to Know

Remington's Model 700 rifles have been incredibly popular since their introduction in 1962, and many consider the 700 as one of the best bolt-action rifles around. And while Remington has seen some changes over the years, including some very recent developments, the 700 is still a legendary rifle with multiple variations on the market. One version that is quite popular is the Model 700 AAC-SD.

There are a wide variety of aftermarket parts and accessories that you can add to the Model 700 to improve upon an already great gun, but by far the best thing you can do is add a suppressor to that rifle. It practically begs for one, especially the AAC-SD model. If you own one of these rifles, and don't already have a can on it, it's about time for you to choose a Remington 700 ACC-SD suppressor. Here's the information you need to pick the right one, too.

What is the Remington 700 AAC-SD?

As we touched on above, the Remington 700 AAC-SD is part of the larger Remington Model 700 family of bolt-action rifles that dates back more than 60 years. Over those six decades, a wide variety of different makes have been offered, and one of them is the AAC-SD.

The "AAC" part of the name comes from the suppressor company Advanced Armament Corporation. The "SD" stands for Schalldämpfer, which is the German word for "silencer." It's a not-so-subtle nod to the fact that this rifle was purpose-built to be a suppressor host. Running it without one is practically sacreligious.

These rifles came with a shorter heavy barrel, with a 5/8x24 threaded muzzle, making it as "suppressor ready" as it gets. Chambered in .308, these rifles were intended to be used for tactical purposes, although many were used for target shooting and hunting.

As with any Remington prior to the breakup of the company, The 700 rifles suffered from some quality control issues. Those issues were resolved and the 700 ACC-SD was replaced by the 700 SPS Tactical Threaded. Unfortunately the company closed the Ilion, NY factory for good earlier in 2024 and is undergoing some reorganization in a new factory and headquarters located in Georgia. At the time of this writing, there isn't a new Remington 700 on the market, but we can all keep our fingers crossed.

If you're in the market for a used Remington 700 ACC-SD and can find one, check to make sure the barrel ins't in contact with the stock, and that the finish on the bolt isn't impeding the flow of the action. These aren't deal breakers per say, and can easily be fixed with some gentle gunsmithing.

Can You Suppress the Remington 700 AAC-SD?

This should be pretty obvious given the information revealed above, but the answer is yes, you can suppress the Remington 700 AAC-SD. Not only can you, but you definitely should! This model was made to be suppressed!

Since this gun was designed from the ground up to be used with a suppressor, you'll reap all of the benefits that come with shooting suppressed. Obviously, there's the sound suppression - which is excellent on the 700 AAC-SD because it's a bolt-action rifle - but you'll also benefit from reduced recoil. This can aid in better accuracy and more shooter comfort. If you're shooting long-range with this rifle, that accuracy and comfort is a huge plus.

Variables to Consider when Choosing the Best Suppressor

Choosing the best suppressor is a very personal process. Generally speaking, there is no right or wrong answer for "the best" because that definition changes from person to person based on what is most important to them.

When picking a suppressor for the Remington 700 AAC-SD (or for any gun), there are a handful of things to consider right off of the bat: weight, length, and price. All three of those things are going to have a direct impact on what suppressor ends up being the right one for you. Too heavy and you won't want to carry it around. Too long and the overall setup can be unwieldy. Too pricey and you may not make the purchase. It's all got to be just right for you.

Our picks for the best suppressors for the Remington 700 ACC-SD

Best Overall: TBAC ULTRA 7

TBAC Ultra 7 .30 with quick detach muzzle brake product image; black suppressor.

Any time you talk suppressors, someone is bound to bring up the TBAC brand and their ULTRA line - and with good reason. Their suppressors are fantastic.

The TBAC ULTRA 7 is a highly efficient - yet still compact - suppressor that sits comfortably in the middle between the shorter ULTRA 5 and the longer ULTRA 9. It shines in situations and setups where compact size is important but excellent suppression is still required. Essentially, when you need the best of both worlds, go with the ULTRA 7 on your 700 AAC-SD.

A suppressor is only as good as the sound suppression that it provides, and the TBAC ULTRA 7 is no slouch. Tests show that full-power hot M118LR ammo meters just 129 decibels at the shooter’s ear and 137 decibels at the muzzle. This classifies the ULTRA 7 as being hearing safe for both shooters and bystanders.

Available as direct thread or a QD muzzle brake,  the ULTRA 7 can be changed between the two with a simple factory service operation in case your needs change.

Utilizing a tubeless design made of stainless steel and an Inconel blast baffle, the Resonator K allows this suppressor to punch above its weight class in terms of features and price. It's rated for full auto fire and designed for rigorous use! Many QD suppressors require you to buy a muzzle device in order to take advantage of the QD benefits, but not with the Resonator K. Best BANISH: BANISH 30

Banish 30 product image

Once you know how much fun it is to shoot your Remington 700 AAC-SD suppressed, you might want to branch out to using your suppressor on other guns in other calibers. The BANISH 30 is the perfect selection from the BANISH lineup to do just that.

The BANISH 30 is as a 9" suppressor in the full-size configuration, but if you’ll be shooting suppressed in tighter, confined spaces, the front module can be removed to shorten it down into a 7" configuration.

This suppressor also weighs considerably less than most suppressors of similar size because it is made from a strong titanium alloy. The end result is a suppressor that is incredibly durable and lightweight.  In the full configuration, it weighs 14 ounces; in the short configuration, it weighs just 11 ounces. You’ll barely even notice it on the muzzle of your Remington 700 AAC-SD or other guns!

Unlike other suppressors on the market, the BANISH 30 is completely user-serviceable. It easily comes apart for cleaning in a tumbler, ultrasonic cleaner, or manually. Reassembly is just as easy with the keyed and indexed baffles.

Advantages:

  • Compatible with multiple other calibers
  • Titanium construction is strong and light
  • Modular design lets the shooter decide the length

Drawbacks:

  • No QD attachment option

Best Premium: SureFire SOCOM762-RC2

SureFire SOCOM762 RC2 product image; black suppressor

If you want the best of the best and money is no obect, then the SureFire SOCOM762-RC2 is what you need. Selected for use by the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) after winning the most rigorous and extensive suppressor testing ever conducted, this suppressor is the cream of the crop.

Made from laser-welded stainless steel and Inconel, the SOCOM762-RC2 can withstand even the harshest conditions imaginable. If it can withstand the SOCOM tests, then it can withstand even the most rigorous things we as civilians can put it through.

SureFire uses a vented baffle technology to provide high-performance sound suppression that is well within hearing-safe levels. When accuracy is of the utmost importance, SureFire has developed a suppressor that offers 100% repeatable sub-MOA impact shift and group size when switching between suppressed and unsuppressed fire with their QD mounts. This is huge because some suppressors can have a shift in impact when switching between suppressed and unsuppressed fire. With this suppressor, that's no longer an issue.

Advantages:

  • Built to withstand even the most rigorous of use
  • Vented baffle technology provides excellent sound suppression
  • 100% repeatable sub-MOA impact shift and group size

  • It's not cheap, but that's why it's our premium pick

Other Suppressor Considerations

Now that you have a good idea of suppressor options for the Remington 700 AAC-SD, there are a few other things to take into consideration, especially if this is your first suppressor.

The Suppressor Buying Process

Buying a suppressor is similar to buying a Remington 700 AAC-SD. There's paperwork and background checks involved with both, but buying a suppressor is more in-depth than that. There are more overall steps, a good deal of paperwork, photos, fingerprints, and more that go into buying a suppressor. Thankfully, Silencer Central has got the buying process down to a science, making it incredibly easy to get a suppressor in all 42 states where they are legal to own.

Are Suppressors Worth the Investment?

The short answer is yes, suppressors are worth the investment.

Even though there are options at all different price points, the simple fact remains that suppressors aren't inexpensive and buying one is an investment both in time and money. It's also an investment in your health - specifically, your hearing. You only get one pair of ears, and hearing damage is permanent. Using a suppressor makes it really easy to protect your hearing, and it's hard to put a price on something that is priceless.

Invest In Yourself – Shop Quality Suppressors Today

Owning a Remington 700 AAC-SD without owning a suppressor is like owning a muscle car without having a driver's license. You can't really appreciate the rifle and its capabilities without shooting it suppressed.

At Silencer Central, we've perfected the suppressor buying process over the course of almost 20 years. We're the nation's largest silencer dealer and the only one that's licensed to sell to people in all 42 states where suppressors are legal. Plus, we'll ship it right to your front door once it has been approved.

You can't afford to not have a suppressor any longer, so let's get your journey to suppressor ownership started today!

Remington’s Model 700 rifles have been incredibly popular since their introduction in 1962, and many consider the 700 as one of the best bolt-action rifles around. And while Remington has seen some changes over the years, including some very recent developments, the 700 is still a legendary rifle with multiple variations on the market. One version that is quite popular

Our Guide to The Five Best Universal Suppressors

When you think of a universal suppressor, what comes to mind? If you're a Tolkien fan, you probably just had the words, " One can to suppress them all," flash through your head. That's not far off. A suppressor represents a pretty significant investment in your shooting and hunting, with some suppressors costing more than you may have spent on your firearm. When you plunk down your hard-earned cash on a suppressor, you likely want one that can be used on as many of your firearms as possible.

Universal vs. Multi-Caliber - Is There a Difference?

Technically speaking, there is a difference between a universal can and a multi-caliber one. That difference is fairly small, but can be an issue depending upon how you use it. A universal suppressor is one that will work with a multitude of caliber options without needing any modifications. That last bit is the kicker. Multi-caliber suppressors do the same thing, for the most part, but require some configuration to work with different caliber rifles. This can be something like swapping out an end cap from .30 caliber to one set up for 6.5.

You need to know if you have a universal suppressor or a multi-caliber one. The difference is pretty obvious. If you have a can that requires something like a swapped end cap for changing between your .308 and a 6,5 Creedmoor, be sure you make that change before you swap the rifles. The last thing anyone wants is for you to shoot a .30 caliber bullet through a 6.5 mm end cap.

For this list, we have both listed interchangeably, but if the can requires a special modification for different calibers, we note it.

Top Suppressor Models for Universal Use

How We Made Our Picks

We picked the top universal suppressors by looking at sales and customer reviews. After all, the buying public - YOU - truly are the ones who decide which are the best products. We also looked hard at the specs and designs of the cans. Last and not least, we made the sacrifice and took them to the range to get some first-hand experience.

Is Buying a Universal Suppressor the Right Move?

The best reason to consider buying a universal suppressor is budget. If you don't have the finances to buy several caliber-specific cans, going with one that can handle the majority of your firearms is a good call.

What to Consider When Deciding Whether or Not to Buy a Universal or Multi-Caliber Suppressor

There are some things you should think about before you decide on which type of suppressor to go with. Some of these things will seem obvious, while there are some additional considerations to keep in mind as well, that maybe aren't so obvious.

Banish 338 on bolt action rifle in prairie.

Caliber

Universal/multiple-caliber suppressors usually have a limit to how wide of a range you can go caliber-wise for the can to do its job. The most common variation, and it's not even close, is the .30 caliber suppressor. These cans can handle up to some form of .300 magnum cartridge and can often work, for the most part, down to .22 rimfire. Are they going to be as effective on a rimfire as a dedicated rimfire suppressor would be? No, they won't. However, they still work pretty good.

Going to a larger caliber suppressor, like a .338 or a .46 will give you a can that works with a lot of different calibers, often down to .223/5.56, but they are truly too big to work for a rimfire. Look at what firearms you have and what you want to use your suppressor for.

Is there a true universal suppressor that can work on any firearm from .17 to to .50 caliber? There might be, but we wouldn't recommend any simply because it isn't a suppressor you should honestly use.

Future guns

There are two types of gun buyers. One type plans out purchases and calibers ahead of time, often for a specific use, like a planned hunting trip. The other type tends to buy a firearm on a whim. "I didn't really need or plan to buy a .375 H&H, but it was a good deal and a great rifle, so I just went for it." Yeah, the second also plans ahead, but a good deal can be hard to pass up. We tend to fall into the second type of gun buyer.

why is this a consideration for considering a universal suppressor purchase? It falls in line with the caliber consideration. If you're planning on buying a .45/70 and want to be able to suppress it, keep that in mind for when you pick a can.

Barrel Threading

Barrel threading

It may seem like something you wouldn't consider at first, but it is important. How many of your current firearms have a threaded barrel? If you have 2-3 firearms with threaded barrels, and don't plan to have any more, whether you buy a new gun, or have your current barrels threaded, get the can that fits the calibers you have. Granted, you can have barrels threaded fairly easily. We offer that service with expert gunsmiths.

Mounts

Be sure to have all of the proper mounts for every threaded barrel you have. Not every barrel will be threaded the same - unless, of course, you have them threaded that way. Having a universal can doesn't mean much if you only have the mounts to use it with one firearm.

The Best 3-Lug Adapters For mounting your suppressor

You've probably heard of 3-lug (or tri-lug) barrels before and wondered what they were. Quite simply, they're a barrel that has three lugs protruding from it near the muzzle. Originally developed by Heckler and Koch in the 1960s, these lugs are attachment points for suppressors and other muzzle devices and are most commonly found on pistol-caliber firearms.

The biggest benefit of a 3-lug mount is how fast it works. You simply depress the spring, give your suppressor a quarter-turn, and release. Voila - mounted suppressor!

If you want to use the 3-lug system on a barrel that wasn't made in the factory with lugs, don't fret. There are 3-lug adapters that you can use so long as your barrel is threaded. (If your barrel isn't threaded, then you can't attach a suppressor anyway, so start there first!)

Of course, you've also got to have a 3-lug adapter on your suppressor so that it can interface with the lugs on the barrel mount. The 3-lug system has to be there on both the barrel and the suppressor in order for the system to work properly. A lot of suppressors on the market have 3-lug adapters that can be added to them, but it isn't a universal offering for all companies or even all of a company's suppressor offerings. Be sure to check and make sure that the make and model you want to use has an available adapter to avoid any disappointment down the line!

BANISH Tri-Lug Adapter

Pistol-caliber carbines are growing in popularity and for those with a three-lug mount, these adapters will allow you to mount your BANISH 45 suppressor. The BANISH Tri-Lug Housing Assembly contains a BANISH 45 Tri-Lug piston cap, Shuttle Adapter, and Spring. This assembly is directly compatible with the BANISH 45 and can be compatible with the BANISH 46 when used along with a BANISH 46 Piston Housing (sold separately).

.578x28

You also need the correct adapter to go with the housing assembly. This Tri-lug adapter is required for attaching a BANISH 45 on carbines up to .45 caliber that are threaded in .578x28.

1/2x28

This Tri-lug adapter is required for up to 9mm Firearms threaded in 1/2x28

SilencerCo 3-Lug Muzzle Device

The 3-Lug Mount is a quick-attach mounting option for guns with fixed barrels.

.45 Adapter

Paired with a 3-lug suppressor mount (sold separately), 3-lug muzzle devices are known to be some of the fastest to attach and detach while still being one of the most rock-solid mounting choices on the market today. This one of for use with a .45.

9mm Adapter

Ready for your carbine, the SilencerCo twi-lug for the 9mm is the fastest to attach and detach while still being one of the most rock-solid mounting choices on the market today. The 9mm 3-lug muzzle devices must only be used with 9mm 3-lug mounts.

Here at Silencer Central, we’ve been selling silencers all day, every day for more than 15 years. Firearms Hunting

Best Suppressors for the .30-06 Rifle

The .30-06 is probably the most well-known hunting cartridge in existence, at least here in the U.S. It is the benchmark that all other big-game cartridges are compared to and measured by. You will often see a new cartridge hit the market and have gun writers salivate all over it, but then check the forums and find a lot of comments along the lines of, "The new (insert new cartridge here) doesn't do anything the .30-06 didn't already do." Let's face it, the .30-06 isn't sexy, but it sure gets the job done. In fact, no other cartridge comes close in the number of big game animals taken across North America, It makes sense to look at suppressing the .30-06, and as a bonus, if it works for the '-06, it'll work on just about any other .30-caliber rifle and below.

No respect, I tell ya!

These days, for whatever reasons, the .30-06 gets no respect from many. It's like the Rodney Dangerfield of cartridges. If you don't get the Dangerfield reference, go ask your parents.

It is likely because it is seen as the previous generation's cartridge. There are newer cartridges that perform great, and since we tend to like shiny things, we are attracted to the new stuff. 6.5 Creedmoor, we're looking at you. What we need to keep in mind is that the .30-06 is the benchmark we measure any new rifle cartridge against. That's why you'll see a few guys in every forum saying the same thing about any new cartridge being discussed - "It won't do anything the .30-06 already did."

Ammo is plentiful, and often lower in initial cost, making the .30-06 a popular choice for hunters looking to save some money. There are a lot of budget-friendly, yet quality rifles to be found, too.

Why suppress you Ought Six?

From a historical standpoint, the .30-06 was developed as a military cartridge. It was adopted in 1906 by the US Government and lauded by shooters and hunters for more than a century, the venerable "thirty-ought-six" is a cartridge that has certainly stood the test of time. Plus, it is a big cartridge, and it makes a lot of noise.

Going all the way to Hiram Maxim's first silencer in 1909, he initially marketed it for the .30-06 bolt-action rifles being used by the military. Maxim knew that there was a need to quiet this caliber down, and for more than 100 years, companies have been building upon what he started.

Today, the market for a suppressor that is suited to the .30-06 cartridge is plentiful - something that Mr. Maxim would certainly be proud to know! However, all those choices can make it hard to pick the right one for your needs.

Our picks for the best .30-06 suppressors

Like every list, we base our picks from experience. The team at Silencer Central is made up of people who hunt and shoot a lot. We use and abuse every can that comes through our doors for evaluation. We don't take these recommendations lightly, and give you our honest, no-BS assessment.

Used ten thousands shim and it lined up great - Only moved bullet impact about 1-1/2.“ After installing buck 30 suppressor I shot a three shot group at 100 yards and recoil was great. It felt like it reduced recoil about 50%. Looking forward to hunting with it in about a month. The paperwork and wait was a bit worry some but very glad to have now. It performs great so far. How to Choose the Right Silencer for Your .30-06

We could say that any suppressor rated for .30/7.62 caliber would work for your .30-06. We won't though. Some of them are aimed at specific uses, like AR-platforms and more. For the most part, however, any .30 caliber can will work for the cartridge.

There are a bunch of things to consider in this area, but we will go over two of the biggest ones that you'll need to keep in mind: price and intended use.

Price of the Suppressors

For most of us, money is a big concern and the price tag on a suppressor is going to definitely play a role in what is ultimately chosen. Of course, just because a can is inexpensive doesn't mean it's of poor quality, and the opposite is also true. Just because it costs a bunch, doesn't mean it has the best performance.

The beauty of Silencer Central is - we sell just about every suppressor brand on the market - and we're adding more all the time. The ones we listed in this story are our favorites for the .30-06, but there are more options, too. Only you can truly set your budget and features needed for your needs.

Also, don't forget to factor in the $200 NFA tax stamp that you'll have to get to complete the suppressor purchase, too. Unfortunately, that price is fixed and there's no shopping around for a better deal on one.

Use of the Gun

The rifle that you mount your can to will also play a role in what one you choose. For example, if you're doing bench rest shooting, then the weight is of less importance than if you would be hiking all over the place on a big game hunting trip. The same goes for the length of the suppressor. Tight quarters necessitate a shorter suppressor, and with some options, you can choose from long or short configurations depending on your needs.

Another example would be deer hunters. My first hunting rifle was a Winchester Model 70 in .30-06. It is one of my favorite deer rifles to this day. I use it around the Midwest, and usually from a stationary and elevated blind. I can let the barrel hang out the window, so size and weight don't matter as much to me. My choice? I went with a BANISH 30. It stays with that "ought six," too. I don't like to break up a winning team.

Find the Best Silencer for the .30-06 Cartridge

The market for suppressors is plentiful, and narrowing it down to the right one for you can be confusing. Thankfully, our staff has been shooting and selling suppressors for more than 15 years. Suffice it to say that we’ve got a pretty good handle on which silencers pair best with certain guns and calibers, like the .30-06 cartridge. If you’re having trouble deciding, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’ll happily talk you through the options and then, when you’re ready, get you on your way to silencer ownership and suppressed shooting!

The .30-06 is probably the most well-known hunting cartridge in existence, at least here in the U.S. It is the benchmark that all other big-game cartridges are compared to and measured by. You will often see a new cartridge hit the market and have gun writers salivate all over it, but then check the forums and find a lot of

The Best Suppressors For .270 Winchester Deer Hunting Ammo

The .270 Winchester, AKA .270 Win and .270, was introduced almost a century ago, but it has a following that is arguably larger than it was when it was first introduced. Many consider it to be the best deer hunting rifle of all time and there are elk, bear and other big game species hunters that would agree. Initially relegated to the backseat because of the .30-06 Springfield cartridge, the .270 picked up steam after World War II and it really hasn't slowed down since then.

There are those who consider the .270 the greatest all-around hunting caliber. Famed gun writer Jack O'Connor was among them, O'Connor heavily favored the .270 chanbered in his personal Winchester Model 70 rifle.

Whether you're doing hog control, hunting plains game, or on a mountainous trek, the .270 Winchester is right at home in all of those situations - and plenty more. The only way to truly improve on the .270 Winchester is by adding a suppressor to your setup. That's why we've put together a list of some of the best suppressors on the market for the .270 cartridge. and for the few of you who wonder, yes, every one of the cans listed in this article will work just fine with those of you shooting the .270 WSM, a round that doesn't get the love it deserves.

WHY you should USE A SUPPRESSOR

As you might imagine, this is a question we get a lot. The answer is simple - you need to protect your hearing. The decibel level from a gun shot is high enough to do permanent damage to your hearing. The .270 in any form is still loud, and a suppressor can help.

Shoot on mute

Lowering the decibel output of any activity to down below the threshold for permanent damage to your hearing is a good thing. For short, impactful hearing damage, such as you would encounter hunting, we try to get the level down below 140 decibels. The average gunshot comes in around 140-160.

Every decibel level multiplies the amount of decibels, so a 10 decibel level increase raises that amount by a factor of ten. The same goes in reverse. Reduce the decibel level by ten and you decrease the force of that sound wave by a factor of ten.

Think of sound as a wave and your ear drum as a house on the shore. If you have a 3 foot wave coming and you increase that power by a factor of ten, how big is the wave now? 30 feet! A three-foot wave won't likely damage your house, but a 30-footer means trouble - as in serious damage that you may never be able to repair. A suppressor is like a solid break wall that protecting your house (inner ear) from that wave. A suppressor mutes the sound wave, making it safer and more enjoyable to shoot.

Best .270 suppressors

We picked the cans in this list based on our experiences in the field and on feedback from customers.

BANISH Backcountry

BANISH Backcountry

The two most important factors for picking a suppressor for a backcountry hunt are sound suppression and weight, and the .30 caliber BANISH Backcountry suppressor was built with those factors in mind.

The Backcountry is a fixed-length suppressor that measures 5.5” in length (5.7” with QD mount) and weighs just 7.8 ounces. That’s a full 1.3” shorter and 2.2 ounces lighter than the BANISH 30 in its short configuration. That may not sound like much, but it makes a world of difference for backcountry adventurers who carefully pack their gear with size and weight in mind.

Rated for calibers up to the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum (RUM), the BANISH Backcountry utilizes six baffles that drop the decibel level down to 135 dB for .308 Winchester, 137 dB for .300 Win Mag, and 138 dB for .300 RUM at the ear – all of which fall below the hearing-safe threshold.

Utilizing a 1.375×24 Universal Mount, the BANISH Backcountry is a direct-thread suppressor designed to eliminate any extra weight associated with a muzzle device method of attachment, but it is also available with an optional muzzle brake attachment.

When size, weight, and sound suppression are of the utmost concern, the BANISH Backcountry suppressor allows you to pack in ounces, shoot at hearing-safe levels, and pack out pounds.

Dead Air Sandman-S

Dead Air's Sandman suppressors have great reputations and with good reason. The Sandman-S is the "little brother" to the Sandman-L, and while it may be smaller, it still retains all of the performance. Featuring a low blowback design, the Sandman-S is touted for not only its compact construction but also for its impressive noise reduction at the ear. That makes it a great option for a .270 Winchester suppressor.

The Dead Air Sandman-S features a quick-detach mounting system that incorporates an index pattern for ease of mounting and removal. It's also outfitted with a removable front-end cap, making the Sandman-S extremely user-serviceable, allowing for quick disassembly, cleaning, and fast reassembly.

Banish 30

Banish 30 product image

The Banish 30 is a direct-thread suppressor that mounts on conventional 5/8x24 threads and comes out of the box as a 9" suppressor holding eight baffles.

If, however, you’ll be shooting suppressed in tighter, more confined spaces, or you just don't want as much can hanging off the end of your barrel, then you'll benefit greatly from this suppressor's modularity. It can easily break down and assemble into a 7" configuration with six baffles. Either way, you'll still get great sound suppression with minimal added length on your .270 Winchester rifle in either configuration.

Weight is just as important as the overall length in this situation. The Banish 30 is made from a strong titanium alloy for unmatched durability at an extremely lightweight. In the full configuration, it weighs 13 ounces; in the short configuration, it weighs just 10 ounces. You’ll be hard-pressed to even feel it on the average rifle chambered in .270 Winchester!

When it comes time for cleaning, the Banish 30 easily comes apart from both ends and is ready to be tossed in a tumbler, ultrasonic cleaner, or cleaned manually. Reassembly is a breeze due to the baffles being keyed and indexed for exact alignment.

What customers say:

The Omega 300 is popular for all sorts of .30-caliber chamberings, as well as slightly smaller ones like the .270 Winchester. That makes it one of the best multi-caliber suppressors in its class, so it will be right at home on a variety of other rifles, too. You aren't just limited to the .270 Winchester, so try it out with .308, .30-06, .300 Blackout, etc.

What customers say:

"I purchased the Silencerco Omega 300 for its ability to make shooting less noisy. What I did not expect was how it really helped with recoil management and improved accuracy. The best I was able to achieve with my .308 rifle and ammo before was a 1,5 moa grouping. With the Silencerco Omega 300 added to the mix (same gun and ammo) I was able to quickly get my best grouping down to .75 moa! So, very happy with this purchase and what it has done for my shooting experience." Scott C.

Hunting With a Suppressed .270

As we mentioned before, tens of thousands of people have trusted a rifle chambered in .270 Winchester for hunts of all kinds for almost a century. As long as you understand the game you're hunting and are confident in both your abilities and those of your chosen cartridge load, there's no reason you can't trust the .270 Winchester on your next hunt either.

Adding a suppressor into the mix is a gamechanger. The reduced decibel level will help protect your hearing and the hearing of the rest of your hunting party. Plus, there's less chance of spooking any other game that may be in the area.

While the recoil from a .270 isn't extreme, it's still nice to know that a "side effect" of using a suppressor is recoil reduction. That means you can expect a very accurate first shot with an easy time getting back on target if you need a follow-up shot.

The Best Lever-Action Rifle Suppressors

If you hadn’t noticed, there is a big resurgence in lever-action rifles these days. These were the original “high capacity” firearms and there are more hitting the market all the time. There are some great models coming from folks at Henry, Marlin, Winchester, Browing, and even Smith & Wesson, with additional cool guns coming from Rossi, Mossberg, Chiappa, and Taylor to name a few. And quite a few are available from the factory with a threaded barrel for a suppressor. This begs the question, what are the best lever-action gun suppressors?

Calibers

Traditionally there are some specific calibers that are common amongst the lever-action rifle crowd. The popular ones like .30/30 and .45/70 make up the bulk of the available rifles, with others available in .357, .44 Mag, and .45 LC. But it’s not limited to just those calibers. Companies like Browning and Henry also produce rifles in popular rifle calibers like .308, .243, .223, and even 6.5 Creedmoor.

There are even a couple of companies working to release lever-action rifles that accept AR mags. Bond has the LVRB in the works, and Henry has the Lever Supreme. And, of course, we can’t forget the straight wall cartridges that have caused a huge amount of ruckus in the industry – the .350 Legend, .360 Buckhammer, and the .450 Bushmaster.

While these cartridges are all pretty stout, Browing has made BLR lever-action rifles in some big caliber offerings. You can grab anything from a .22-250 on up to a .300 Win Mag, or any of the Winchester short mag cartridges like 7mm WSM, .300WSM, and .325 WSM.

The point here is that there are many caliber options in a lever-action rifle. This makes picking the best suppressor for your lever gun a lot like picking one for any other rifle.  But some do work better than others.

The Best Suppressors for Lever-Action

We didn’t just pick the cans we want to sell for this list. After all, we are the experts in the suppressor industry and sell more suppressors and accessories than any other company in the United States. We talked to our engineers about which cans work best, plus we did what we always do – we listened to our customers.

Best Overall – BANISH 46-V2

We didn’t pick this can just because it is our own brand. We picked it because we designed it to be the best. Period. Countless hours of testing and designing went into the latest version of our .46-caliber can and it works amazingly well on every rifle we’ve put one on.

If you are shooting a .45/70 or similar caliber, this is the can you need. It works great for anything from a .223 up, but really shines on the bigger caliber rifles. We tested it with a Henry X-Rifle in .45/70 and liked it so much that we paired the two for our Carnivore Camp Giveaway a while back. Made of titanium, the Banish 46-V2 is lightweight at just 15.3 oz. It is only 8 inches long and 1.59 inches in diameter, making it a very compact suppressor for big-caliber rifles and it is extremely tough for hunting in harsh conditions. The BANISH 46-V2 offers a 30-decibel reduction in sound output, too.

  • LENGTH - 8"
  • DIAMETER - 1.59"

The BANISH 30 comes to you as a 9-inch suppressor that holds eight baffles. If you want to shorten it up, it can easily break down and assemble into a 7-inch can with six baffles. It’s a lightweight can, too. In the full configuration, it weighs 14 ounces and in the short configuration, it weighs just 11 ounces. You can even use it on your BLR, as it works with any .30 cal, up to .300 mag! Good stuff!

Most Compact .30 - BANISH Backcountry

If you’re shooting anything from a .300 mag on down, including your .30/30, you have the option of running the BANISH Backcountry. Why go this route? That’s easy, most lever-action rifles are pretty compact, especially a .30/30. If you want to keep the advantage of having a fast-handling, short rifle, but still feel the need to take the bark from the barrel, the Backcountry makes a tone of sense due to its small size and light weight.

The Backcountry is a fixed-length suppressor that measures only 5.5 inches in length and weighs just 7.8 ounces. For comparison, it is a full 1.3” shorter and 2.2 ounces lighter than the Banish 30 in its shortest configuration. When you are trying to keep everything as compact as possible, we have a cool option for you in the Backcountry.

SPECS:

  • LENGTH - 5.5"
  • DIAMETER - 1.6"
  • WEIGHT - 7.8 OZ
  • MATERIAL - TITANIUM
  • SELF-SERVICE - NO
  • CALIBER RANGE - UP TO 300 RUM
  • SOUND REDUCTION - 30 DB

Other options?

Are there other options available? Yes and no. SilencerCo and a few other companies make excellent Lever-action rifle suppressors, like the SIlencerCo Hybrid 46M. The problem, and reason why – FOR NOW – they aren’t on this list is simple. They aren’t in stock. How frustrating would it be to read about a great can and decide you want one, only to find that it is out of stock? We wouldn’t do that to you. When we get inventory on some additional lever-action rifle suppressors, we will update this list.

It is actually one of the biggest advantages BANISH cans have – Inventory. Not only did we design them to be the best in their class, but we have control over manufacturing. It’s one of the pillars of the Silencer Central plan – Award winning customer service, to-your-door shipping, fast approval times, and in-stock inventory.

Lever-Action Suppression Issues

Like we said at the start, there are more and more lever-action rifles hitting the market that come with threaded barrels. That is good because with some lever guns, it can be tricky to complete threading. Can it be done? Sure. You might need a good gunsmith to disassemble your lever gun and get the barrel out.

There are some barrels that are a little easier. Henry’s Long Ranger series doesn’t have the magazine tube attached to the barrel, making them easier to work with. Browning’s break-down BLR rifles might be easier to work with, too.

Have barrel threading questions? We can help. Check with our expert barrel-threading  team.

Banish 46-V2 suppressor on lever action rifle

Why use a suppressor with a lever-action rifle?

There is a good reason to use a suppressor with any rifle, and the same can be said for lever-action rifles, too. When you look at the lengths of most lever guns, they tend to be shorter than most bolt-action rifles, and then you add in cartridges like the .45/70 and that’s a lot of bark to go with the big-bullet bite. Any time you can take the noise from a firearm being fired, that is a good thing.

Our extensive testing on a product, like our BANISH 46-V2, has shown us that it not only lowers the decibel levels to a safer amount, but also it makes the rifle more accurate and even helps with recoil. Anytime you can make a rifle more pleasant to shoot and make it more accurate, well, that ought to be enough to get you to buy one.

Choosing the Best Jericho 941 Suppressor: Our Top Picks for 2024

The IWI Jericho 941 pistol is one that is easily identifiable. There isn’t anything that really looks, or performs like it. That it comes from the same company that produces the UZI helps, and it also lets you know that it is a solid pistol that will do exactly what you need it to do.

One thing that is definitely in the 941’s favor is how well it takes to a suppressor. Not every pistol will work seamlessly with a can, but we have found the Jerico to be one that does pretty well. Granted, you will need to find a threaded barrel for your Jerico if you don’t already have one. That may be the biggest challenge to fitting the best Jericho 941 suppressor.

Getting to Know the Jericho 941

Introduced in 1990 by IMI (now IWI), the Jericho 941 is a 9mm DA/SA pistol that is modeled on the CZ-75 and is sometimes known as the Baby Eagle. Despite that moniker, it is not related to the larger Desert Eagle.

The gun has been used by various police and military forces throughout the world, but it is most widely known and recognized as the gun used by one of the characters in the Japanese anime show Cowboy Bebop.

While you can certainly use a suppressor with the Jericho 941, it's important to understand that there are no options available from the factory with a threaded barrel. If you want to use a suppressor, you'll have to purchase an aftermarket threaded barrel. That's the rub about suppressing one of these pistols. Aftermarket threaded barrels are few and far between. If there were an easy solution, we'd include a link, but there isn't that we've found. We do, however, know that they exist, so if you find one, grab it while you can.

Benefits of Suppressing a 9mm

The 9mm cartridge is one of the most popular in the world, which means that there are a ton of guns chambered for it and, by extension, a ton of suppressor options available for it.

Since it is so popular, suppressor development for the 9mm is pretty well honed in and the cartridge benefits greatly from being suppressed.

While no one would argue that the 9mm produces much recoil, it still has recoil nonetheless. Shooting it with a suppressor helps reduce some of that recoil. This reduction makes it more pleasant to shoot, can help increase a shooter's accuracy, and can help get the shooter back on target faster if there is a need for a follow-up shot or shots.

Choosing the Best Jericho 941 Suppressor

Every person's priorities for choosing a suppressor are different, whether it's for use with a Jericho 941 or some other gun.

Decibel reduction, recoil management, length, weight, versatility, build materials, budget, and more are some of the most common aspects that people take into consideration when choosing the best suppressor for their needs.

Best Overall: Dead Air Wolfman

Dead Air - Wolfman 9 DT .5 x 28 Black

The Wolfman from Dead Air takes our top spot for the best Jericho 941 suppressor because of its range in terms of modularity, caliber compatibility, firearm compatibility, and build quality.

Made of fully welded 17-4 PH stainless steel, this provides ultimate levels of strength and durability while still keeping the suppressor as light as possible: only 9.8 ounces in the short configuration and just 14.4 ounces in the long configuration. It’s the perfect balance of toughness and lightweight. The Wolfman's large internal volume and blast chamber is designed for maximum muzzle suppression while also maximizing at-ear performance.

Advantages:

  • Fully welded stainless steel construction is very durable
  • Modular design for user-specific needs and setups

YHM R9 suppressor product image

Affordable and cheap are not synonyms, so don't mistake the two words to mean the same thing, and don't mistake the Yankee Hill Machine R9 as being cheap just because it is affordable. It’s even rated for limited full-auto fire, so go ahead and send it! The fully-welded, tubeless design is built from stainless steel for rugged durability while still keeping the weight down: it weighs just 10.7 ounces.

Most Versatile: SilencerCo Omega 36M

SILENCERCO OMEGA 36M

For the shooter who wants modular capabilities and multi-caliber compatibility because you'll be using it on more than just your Jericho 941, the SilencerCo Omega 36M fits the bill perfectly and easily slides into our spot for versatility on this list.

Offering multiple configurations for length, weight, and mounting options, the Omega 36M has a two-piece modular design that allows for the removal of the front section. This lets the shooter decide what is more important during a specific shooting scenario: if you need the best sound suppression and are not worried about length, then run it full-size. If you can sacrifice a few decibels in the name of size, then go with the shorter configuration.

Here are the details of the Omega 36M configurations: When shortened, it measures 4.90” and weighs just 9.8 ounces. The long configuration is 6.85” and weighs 12.5 ounces. By utilizing a mixture of stainless steel, titanium, and Cobalt 6, both long and short configurations of the Omega 36M are full-auto rated.

Like most SilencerCo products, the Omega 36M can be used with a variety of other SilencerCo pistons, Charlie, ASR, and 3-Lug accessories.

Advantages:

  • Modular, multi-caliber design without having to be huge in size
  • Build quality allows it to be full-auto rated even in the 4.90" configuration
  • Can use entire SilencerCo family of mounting products

Lightest: Dead Air Odessa 9

Dead Air's Odessa 9 product image

The Jericho 941 isn't exactly the smallest or lightest handgun around, so if you can save some weight with your suppressor, that's a big plus. Due to its compact size – ranging from a tiny 2.75” to just 7.75” and weighing just 7.4 ounces in its full length – you won't feel like you've got a giant metal pipe on the end of your muzzle. As a result, the Odessa 9 takes the spot as the lightest on our list: even in its full-size configuration, it still weighs less than all the others at their shortest by more than two ounces!

There are ten different configurable lengths for the Odessa 9, which is great because you can truly dial it in and get the best balance between size and sound suppression on the Jericho 941 or any other gun you use it on.

  • Lightest and shortest on the list by far
  • More modular capabilities than any other on the list
  • Competitively priced

Drawbacks:

  • Direct thread attachment option only

Dead Air Odessa 9 Specs:

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Weight: 7.4 oz (full length)
  • Diameter: 1.1"

Best BANISH: BANISH 45

BANISH 45

We've got a lot of options in the BANISH lineup, but the BANISH 45 is a modular silencer specifically designed for handguns in calibers ranging from .45 ACP down to rimfire. Testing shows the BANISH 45 suppresses a 9mm pistol (like the Jericho 941) by 36 decibels. That's best-in-class sound suppression!

Both ends of the BANISH 45 can be easily unscrewed, allowing you easily and quickly disassemble it to change between the short and long configurations as well as making cleaning a breeze. Reassembly after cleaning or putting it back into the long configuration is just as easy as disassembly thanks to the keyed and indexed baffles.

Caliber compatibility and the ability to use it on other firearms is what we love best about the BANISH 45. Easily swap out the pistons and you can attach this suppressor to a number of pistols or pistol caliber carbines.

Advantages:

  • Compatible with all of the common pistol calibers
  • Titanium makes it strong and still very light
  • Modular so that you can choose which size is best

Drawbacks:

  • Swapping pistons adds to the versatility, but each one is sold separately

BANISH 45 Specs:

  • Caliber: .45
  • Weight: 9.6 oz or 11 oz
  • Diameter: 1 3/8"
  • Length: 6.7" or 7.6"

What to Know When Buying a Suppressor

First and foremost, yes, suppressors are 100% legal to own, but there are some special considerations.

In broad legal terms dealing with federal laws, if you're able to own a gun, then you're able to own a suppressor. However, suppressors are not legal in all 50 states. In fact, they're only legal in 42 states and you can only hunt with them in 41 of those 42. There are also some local restrictions on use and ownership within some states. As a result, you need to do your due diligence to ensure that suppressor use and ownership is legal where you live.

Suppressors are NFA Items

Suppressors are known as NFA items because they fall under regulations set out in the National Firearms Act of 1934, or NFA for short. Other things that are classified as NFA items are destructive devices, short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, and machine guns. It may seem silly to lump suppressors in with those other items, but that's just how the current guns laws are and have been for almost a century in the United States. The NFA dictates that you must purchase a $200 tax stamp for each and every suppressor you buy.

You Can Set Up a Free NFA Gun Trust

An NFA Gun Trust allows you to add unlimited co-trustees to also use your silencers or other NFA items, ensures easy transfer of items as an inheritance when you die, and makes purchasing more silencers and other NFA items easier in the future. We offer this Gun Trust FREE if you purchase a silencer from Silencer Central. We also help ensure you completed the gun trust correctly so ATF does not reject. We have completed over 15,000 silencer-to-gun trust transfers and counting!

The IWI Jericho 941 pistol is one that is easily identifiable. There isn’t anything that really looks, or performs like it. That it comes from the same company that produces the UZI helps, and it also lets you know that it is a solid pistol that will do exactly what you need it to do.  One thing that is definitely
